Recently, the upper classes went on a field trip to the zoo, aquarium and beach in Chonburi. It was a very Thai-style bpai tiao, with a karaoke bus, rushing through exhibits and swimming with clothes on. Here’s a video summary of the day.

Bpai Tiao: School Field Trip to Chonburi
In Thailand, a bpai tiao is a trip of any length. I’ve written about some of my more significant bpai tiaos to tourist destinations here, to be used as travel ideas and tips.
On Tuesday in the wee hours of the morning, I made my way to school. The fourth, fifth and sixth graders were to go on their end of semester field trip and rather than spend the day sitting at school in an empty classroom len-ing Internet (playing on the Internet), I decided to go with them. This was the quintessential Thai trip.
Addressing Gender-Based Violence in Schools
Last week, I attended a Peace Corps workshop called Student Friendly Schools. This was the second time ever that Peace Corps did the Student Friendly Schools workshop; the first time was in Malawi. This is a new global initiative of the Peace Corps. Myself and 14 other volunteers along with Thai counterparts attended a two-and-a-half day workshop to learn about gender-based violence and school-based gender-based violence. Then we started working on a plan to implement what we learned back at site.
Exploring Thai Textiles in Ban Na Kha
Over Thai Mother’s Day weekend, I went on a bpai tiao to Nong Khai. The bus ride there passes through Udon Thai, where there is a small village that is well-known for its textiles. Of course, my friend Jill and I had to stop and check it out. There were so many gorgeous fabrics, particularly the traditional kidt and mut mee styles. Check it out!
Buddhist Wheel of Life at Sala Keao Ku
Recently, I went on a bpai tiao to Nong Khai with my friend Jill. The main thing we did was bike to and visit the Sala Keao Ku sculpture park. One of the pieces that I found particularly intriguing was once that represented the cycle of life. There are sculptures representing various stages of life arranged in a circle, and near the death part there is a Buddha climbing out of the circle. I made this as my own interpretation of the piece.
Bpai Tiao: Nong Khai and Buddhist Sculpture Garden
In Thailand, a bpai tiao is a trip of any length. I’ve written about some of my more significant bpai tiaos to tourist destinations here, to be used as travel ideas and tips.
As I posted on Tuesday, last weekend was a long weekend because it was the queen’s birthday which is observed as Mother’s Day. My friend Jill invited me along to visit Nong Khai, the Thailand side of the Mekong River opposite the first Thailand-Laos Friendship Bridge of Vientiane, the capital of Laos.
Mekong River Sunset Time Lapse
The border between Thailand and Laos is very frequently the Mekong River. With lots of bends and twists in the river, there are many different vantages for the sun to create beautiful vistas. Nong Khai is a province in Isaan and a busy border crossing, due to its proximity to Vientiane. It also has some wonderful spots to watch the sunset over the river.
Bpai Tiao: Koh Tao and SCUBA Diving
In Thailand, a bpai tiao is a trip of any length. I’ve written about some of my more significant bpai tiaos to tourist destinations here, to be used as travel ideas and tips.
For the last few weeks, I was gone from my site for a variety of reasons ranging from doctor’s appointments to meetings to a much needed vacation. They’ve been some very full and busy weeks, but luckily they ended with an island vacation. It also included getting my PADI Open Water SCUBA certification.
Transport in Thailand is Ferries, Tuk Tuks and Motos
Getting around Thailand can be quite the adventure. In the last 24 hours I have seen and experienced almost every single one that I can think of. If you’re traveling around Thailand, here’s a list of some of the ways you might get around.
Bpai Tiao: Enjoying Home Comforts in Bangkok
In Thailand, a bpai tiao is a trip of any length. I’ve written about some of my more significant bpai tiaos to tourist destinations here, to be used as travel ideas and tips.
So after nearly 5 months in Thailand I finally made it to Bangkok for more than a couple of hours. I spent an entire long weekend in the capital city in fact. However, this was one big farang trip. There was no sight seeing done on this excursion. There was an unspoken ban on eating Thai food. And it was a nice chance to rejuvenate.
