After spending the night in Oklahoma city, I followed state highway 66, which follows the old Route 66 to the Kansas border, cuts through Kansas for 14 miles and then goes into Missouri.
I stayed in Springfield, Mo. which is home to Bass Pro Shops. I stopped in the flagship store on my way out of town.
On my way to St. Louis I stopped at the Meramec Caverns, which was pretty neat. I wish that the cave wasn’t privately owned. There are 26 miles of cave total, but one only sees about 3/4th of a mile on the tour. Still, there are some really awesome formations and I pretty much got a private tour since I was the only one there at the time.
Once in St. Louis, I went right to the Mississippi River to check out the Gateway Arch. I rode the tram to the top, watched a movie about Lewis and Clark and looked at the exhibits in the Museum of Westward Expansion. It was really neat to see and read some of the history about the people who explored and settled in the area I was living the last two years.
After spending the night in St. Louis, I made my way to Chicago to spend an evening with another college friend. By this morning I was itching to just be still and made my way back to Michigan. What a trip.
